Yoga In Nature

Yoga In Nature
from MYR 0.00

Our yoga 'studio' is really like no other in Penang: set on the elevated Red Grove Deck amongst the calming green backdrop of a lush tropical rainforest, overlooking the waters of the Straits of Malacca, and accompanied by the soothing sounds of nature.

Chin from Yoga Heart is a highly experienced yoga instructor who started her journey as a teacher in 2017 following completion of her Yoga Teacher Training Course (YTTC) in 2016. She believes that consistency of practice is important to cultivate a deep connection with the body and mind in daily life. You can always feel the supportive energy from her during the sessions.

All are welcome at any level to join. Let’s bring the mind and body together, meet your self on the mat! Let the stillness, the breath, your presence be the goal during the practice.

Forest Bathing

Forest Bathing Walk
from MYR 50.00

We invite you to join us on a gentle, slow-paced journey through our garden sanctuary, designed to enhance the beautiful exchange between forest and people. This walk is crafted to slow your mind and body, decrease cortisol levels, and lower blood pressure, leaving you feeling recharged, grounded, and reconnected. There will be an opportunity to dip your toes into the gardens cascading water ways and grounding your bare feet into our rich jungle soil.

As you walk, our wellness partners will guide you through grounding and breath-work exercises and activities that engage all five senses. Experience the therapeutic practice of Forest Bathing, or Shinrin Yoku, which originated in Japan and adapted to the tropical forest here in Malaysia. This practice involves immersing yourself in the forest atmosphere and taking in its essence with all your senses. The effectiveness of Shinrin Yoku is largely due to aromatic organic compounds called phytoncides, which trees and plants emit to defend against pests and diseases. These same compounds have positive physiological effects on us.

This meditative practice helps you switch off, connect with nature, and support your well-being. Forest Bathing offers numerous benefits; studies have shown it reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, boosts the immune system, and improves mental health.

We end our sensory journey at the water garden, where we finish with a reflection and a Tropical Spice Garden-inspired Jungle tea ceremony.

Quick View
A Slow Return: Movement, Journaling & Tea
from MYR 98.00
Limit 5 per order

The Red Grove Deck sits high within the Garden’s forest cover, and for an hour on this morning, the Garden’s resident yoga instructor Chin will guide you through movement: reconnecting with the breath, stillness, the slow work of meeting the body where it is.

Then, rather than rolling up the mat and heading off, the session segues into a journaling session, accompanied by tea. Led by the Garden’s chief storyteller Jon, this part of the practice is meant to help you sink further into what the practice has already opened: to stay rooted in the body, in touch with your senses, in stillness.

You’ll receive writing material and prompts crafted to help you capture what the body and mind feels in the moment. It could also be an outlet for release and reflection. The paper is your canvass. There will be enough tea and space on the deck for you to find a corner to settle in if you wish.

The morning will end the way it opened, with a few breaths together: a return to the present. Again, and again.

The tea menu is curated with Ashley of Ten Yee Tea, a longtime friend of the Garden and someone both Chin and Jonathan have had the pleasure of learning from.

Jungle Survival Camp
from MYR 50.00

CALLING YOUNG EXPLORERS & FAMILIES!

2D1N Hands-On Outdoor Camping Adventure
5 Sept (2PM) - 6 Sept (12PM) 2026
• Tropical Spice Garden, Teluk Bahang, Penang
• Garden x Beach

Step away from screens and into nature for a 2D1N hands-on outdoor camping adventure, guided by Lincoln Khoo, an experienced facilitator who has spent over 20 years working closely with Orang Asli communities. Learn how to set up your own campsite, build useful gadgets from bamboo, prepare food outdoors, gather around a campfire, explore the beach through fishing and clam digging - and so much more!

WHAT AWAITS YOU?
🌿 Camp & Survive: What makes a good campsite? Learn how to choose a suitable spot in the wild, set up your own tent, and think about how to keep your camp comfortable and protected from the elements.

🎋 Build with Bamboo: Get your hands dirty and put your creativity to work! Learn to use bamboo and natural materials to build gadgets for your campsite.

🫖 Fancy a Cuppa Tea?: Slow down for an afternoon tea break - but with a camping twist! Together we will learn how to prepare your own tea using simple camping equipment and natural materials.

🔥 Outdoor Cooking: Time to get cooking! Learn how to build a fire from scratch, work with outdoor cooking equipments, and prepare dinner together. Then sit back and enjoy the meal you helped make around the campsite.

🍡Campfire, Marshmallows, Games & Stories: As the sun goes down, gather around the fire for marshmallows, camp games and stories. And if you're lucky, our facilitator might share a few untold stories from his years of adventures in the jungle... 👀

🌊 Explore the Beach: Wake up to a new day and off to the beach! Try your hand at fishing, explore the shoreline and get your hands dirty digging for clams.

🌿 Break Camp & Reflect: A good camper knows that the adventure isn't over until the campsite is properly packed away. Learn what to look out for when breaking camp, leave no trace behind, and end the experience with a group reflection and photo.

A Guided Sound Journey Through Nature
from MYR 80.00
Limit 10 per order

From The Art of Listening Series by Han How: A Guided Sound Journey Through Nature

The Garden is a living, breathing space - and you can hear it. The birds, the insects, the rustling canopy, water flowing - all layers we walk past more often than pause to pay attention to. This journey with Han How takes you slowly through it all, pausing at three little nooks in the Garden along the way. Each stop/chapter offers a different way of listening: not only with the ears, but with the whole body.

Chapter One: Touching the Earth
Ground through contact with the earth, gentle vocal toning, and the resonance of a Singing Bowl. Sound begins in the body before it reaches the air; and this is where the walk starts.

Chapter Two: Listening to Rhythm
Gather at the Silent Stones corner and reconnect with your inner rhythm through the steady heartbeat of the Frame Drum. Under the canopy, the sound has somewhere to travel, and something to travel through.

Chapter Three: The Tree of Life
Rest beneath the Tree of Life as the Singing Bowls guide you towards stillness and deeper listening. Nothing is asked of anyone here but to stay a while in the stillness.

We’ll walk, pause, and listen. And somewhere along the journey, we may find our way back to ourselves. No experience needed for this session, and all are welcome.

A Slow Return: Movement, Journaling & Tea

A Slow Return: Movement, Journaling & Tea A Slow Return: Movement, Journaling & Tea A Slow Return: Movement, Journaling & Tea

Nature Den Sundays!
For children, play is learning - and the outdoors, particularly nature, provides the best environment for both. Teaching children to play outdoors early cultivates a vital connection with nature, something often overlooked in today’s fast-paced, tech-savvy world.

Parent-child outdoor play experience
At the Nature Den, we encourage children to explore, create, and play independently outdoors while accompanied by parents or caregivers. This is a parent-child outdoor play experience where accompanying adults remain nearby to support and supervise their children.

Benefits for your kids include:
• fosters resilience
• self-confidence
• initiative
• creativity
• promotes joy of movement, nurtures imagination, encourages experimentation
• builds friendships, and enhances social connections and behaviour

Activities your kids will engage in include:
• small world play
• sand pit
• craft session
• community gardening

Community Gardening
Our Community Gardens is open for the family to enjoy connecting with the earth and spending time in the space dedicated to growing edibles and herbs by our volunteer Community Gardeners. Always a new task is at hand from watering to pruning to planting to building structures!

Forest Bathing

Forest Bathing Walk Forest Bathing Walk Forest Bathing Walk

A Guided Sound Journey Through Nature
from MYR 80.00

Chai & Chat: Life In The Raw

Another evening edition of our Chai & Chat, as day turns to night - for a session about light.

Mohtashim Shaikh works in black and white, and he'll tell you why: strip out colour and the imagination has somewhere to go. What's left is light, and light is what carries the story.

This sharing and conversation draws on decades of travel and living across continents: photographs made in obscure corners and hidden recesses, where the vestiges of a bygone era persist unfiltered and unadorned. Mohtashim shares the work and the seeing behind it: how he finds a frame, what he waits for, and why he believes the truth lives in the absence of colour.

A special dinner menu by Chef Off Duty is available, on a pre-order basis.

Jungle Rumble
from MYR 40.00
Limit 10 per order

Find your way into Nature and groove the night away.

Once in a while, we turn the Red Grove Deck into a lush, hidden sonic playground for the night. Rain or shine, here’s an experience that’ll get you moving under the rainforest canopy and open night sky. Headlining the night is Berlin-native turned Jakarta resident, Simon Schmieder aka Bule Sopan. He’ll be joined by two of Penang’s very own: IMMJN and Richard D.

The invitation is to immerse yourself in the exploration of gritty, fun, layered and deep grooves that defy the conventional and the shared pulse of moving together freely - without judgement. No velvet ropes, no dress code. Just good sound, good people, and the joy of being alive and out in a hidden tropical paradise here in Penang.

Tickets for this event is capped and sale will close once we reach capacity. We highly recommend planning and buying early.

Chai & Chat: Sekolah Main Wayang

Sekolah Main Wayang: When ‘play’ is their middle name.

In 2015, Fairuz co-founded Sekolah Main Wayang (SMW), a collective dedicated to providing creative theatre education to marginalised and under-served communities. Through these workshops, participants are supported in telling their own stories: writing, directing, designing and performing their own narratives.

In this session, Fairuz unpacks SMW's decade-long journey; sharing the inner workings of using play & art as a tool to nurture self realisation and critical consciousness. He will also take a closer focus on the past five years spent with Orang Asli communities through Wayang TEKtek. Expect this sharing to be paired with hands-on examples for you to try, not just a talk. This sharing is also an open invitation to connect with fellow practitioners in the field: whether that leads to future collaborations, swapping resources, or just a fun main-main session among like-minded folks.

This event is in conjunction with LOS: Kembali, SMW's newest shadow puppetry performance with the Semai youth from Bota, premiering at George Town Festival 2026 this August.

Joining Fairuz in the conversation are Luvenia Kalia (mover, storyteller, multidisciplinary artist) and Jonathan Lim (chief storyteller and bringer-together of the Garden).

Meet the Speaker
Fairuz Sulaiman is a practicing visual artist and educator advocating for creative expression and self agency. As a visual artist, Fairuz has worked on art installations, video animation, and visuals for theatre. Alongside his community-building and creative work, he has taught part-time at local universities and colleges within the field of animation and design.

About Chai & Chat
Chai & Chat is a monthly gathering at the Garden for people who want to think out loud together. Each session brings a guest - an artist, a grower, a maker, a practitioner, a mover - to share what they've been working on and reflect on their journey. Not a polished talk, but the honest version: how they actually work, what they've learned the hard way, what they're still figuring out. It’s more of a circle, less of a stage. And needless to say, there will be chai.

Storytelling & Book Launch: Monsoon
from MYR 0.00

Join us at the Glasshouse for a morning centred around Monsoon - a gentle, lyrical picture book that traces the arrival of the rains on a tropical island. From the first cool gusts that stir the palms, to the scent of damp earth rising with the first drops, to the rushing wind and booming thunder that make up nature's own orchestra — the story carries readers through a monsoon day and into the quiet, glistening calm that follows.

We'll open with a reading of the book by author Mohtashim Shaikh alongside illustrator Mohd Shafizi bin Abdul Ghani as they walk us through how Monsoon came together — from first sketches to finished pages. There'll be time for questions after, and signed copies will be available for purchase on site.

The book: Monsoon
A gentle, lyrical picture book evoking childhood memories of life on a tropical island, experiencing the onset of the monsoon rains, it begins with the first cool gusts of sea breeze that stir the palm trees and carry the scent of the seas and far-off lands. Soon, dark clouds gather, and the warm fragrance of damp earth rises as the first drops fall. The story paints the delight of rushing winds, pounding rain, flashes of lighting, and booming thunder, nature's grand orchestra. By evening, the storm calms, leaving behind glistening puddles, fresh air, quiet waves, and a peaceful world where the children drift off to sleep. Content and safe after the magic of a monsoon day.

Author: Mohtashim Shaikh
Following a distinguished forty-year international career in engineering and project management, Mohtashim gracefully transitioned from the rigorous world of logic and numbers into the soulful rhythm of retirement. Within this reflective space, he discovered a profound passion for storytelling.

Today, he is delighted to debut his first illustrated children’s book, Monsoon. This evocative story draws from Mohtashim’s own childhood memories, capturing the vibrant sights, sounds, and wonders of growing up in a tropical land. Woven from personal experiences of torrential rains, Monsoon offers a tender tale that beautifully bridges generations.

Mohtashim views this launch as the dawn of many creative endeavours, a journey he pursues alongside his lifelong devotion to photography.

"Retirement has finally given voice to a creative urge I held inside for decades," Mohtashim shares. "Writing Monsoon allowed me to reconnect with my heritage and share the magic of my youth with the next generation of dreamers." He looks forward to a future filled with storytelling, capturing the beauty of the world through both words and lenses.

Illustrator: Mohd Shafizi bin Abdul Ghani
Born in the historic enclave of George Town, Penang, forty-year-old Shafizi bin Abdul Ghani is a self-taught artist whose profound devotion to the fine arts ignited at the tender age of thirteen.

His creative evolution began with the raw simplicity of pencil sketching, progressed through the vibrant textures of pastels, and ultimately culminated in a mastery of oil painting, which now serves as his primary medium of expression. Guided by a deep reverence for aesthetic value, Shafizi weaves complex emotions and narrative depth into every canvas. As an active figure in the art community, he frequently showcases his work in public exhibitions to share his evolving creative vision.

Recently, he achieved a meaningful milestone by illustrating the newly published book, Monsoon, adding a narrative dimension to his growing artistic legacy.

Ice & Spice
from MYR 80.00

Begin a transformative journey with Kerry Husbands, our resident UK-certified Living Yoga Method teacher, breath coach, and Ice & Spice instructor who introduces an exhilarating experience to Tropical Spice Garden — Penang's first-ever Ice Bath immersion set amidst the lush embrace of nature.

In this 2-hour session, you will be guided through a profound exploration of self-enhancement, fostering a deep connection between mind, body, and spirit. Because the Living Yoga Method has been meticulously crafted with breath work and purposeful movements, you'll not only grasp but master the intricacies of your physical and mental capacities.

The Ice Bath experience unfolds as a culmination of the session, presenting an opportunity to gradually expose yourself to the invigorating power of cold. Beyond the initial chill, you'll find that this practice contributes to:

· strengthening your immune system
· balancing hormone levels
· enhancing the quality of your sleep

All this, among many others. It's not just about embracing the cold; it's a holistic journey towards well-being.
