Primal Dance: Our Body, The Earth
Embark on a transformative journey that reconnects you with the innate rhythms of the natural world through the primal expression of dance. This immersive workshop invites participants to tune in to the mindfulness of bodily sensations while exploring the interconnectedness with nature and animalistic motions.
The participants will be guided through improvisation dance, interpretive hand gestures and shape shifting tasks that fosters playful and liberating experiences while allowing for a holistic exploration of our relationship with the earth. This form of dance emphasises freedom, self-expression, and a return to our primal instincts.
Workshop highlights:
· Enhanced Body Awareness: Primal dance encourages mindfulness of bodily sensations, promoting a deeper understanding of our physical selves.
· Embodied Practices: Engage in movement exercises that align with the Earth’s elements - earth, water, fire and wind - cultivating a deeper understanding of their manifestations within our bodies.
· Nature wisdom: Explore movement gestures from ritual performance traditions that emphasise our interconnectedness with nature , guiding participants towards healing and self-discovery.
· Emotional Release : The expressive movements allow for release of pent-up emotions, contributing to emotional well-being.
· Creative Expression: Participate in activities that blend dance, storytelling, and art, allowing for a holistic exploration of our relationship with the earth.

Aida Redza is an acclaimed, award-winning choreographer and dancer, known for her impactful and visionary contributions to the performing arts. She won the prestigious Kakiseni Boh Cameronian Award in 2023 for her exceptional choreography in Seruan Setu - The Secret Gardens of the Sea, A Musical Journey where Gamelan meets seagrass, which uniquely intertwines cultural heritage and environmental themes. Her work has established her as a prominent figure within Malaysia’s dance community, celebrated for productions that evoke social and environmental consciousness.
Founded in 2019 by Aida Redza, WindRiver Productions operates out of Studio Pentas (HOPE) in Penang. Inspired by Aida’s projects with Shakti Dances and Ombak-Ombak ARTStudio, WindRiver Productions drives Aida’s artistic vision through projects like the SEMANGAT Project, TradeWinds Arts Exchange, and The River Art Project. WindRiver has showcased remarkable works such as Ssegar Angin at the 59th Venice Art Bienalle (2022), Wandering Semangat at the Ansan Street Art Festival (2019), Reclaim at Georgetown Festival (2019), Ibuki Hati at GTF (2021), Angin Ombulan at Georgetown Festival (2022), and Hanyut – at Rivers and Environment Justice (2022) at Alliance Francaise.
